On October 15th, 2020, Northern Community Bank will join with 85,000 other Community Banks worldwide to celebrate International Credit Union Day (ICU Day). This annual event dates back to 1948 celebrating global awareness for the Credit Union movement through outreach, volunteering, fundraising and other ICU Day activities.
With over 270 million Credit Union account holders around the globe, Northern Community Bank will join them in celebrating the not-for-profit financial cooperative spirit that all Credit Unions share.
This spirit has created opportunities to enhanced members quality of life globally. Allowing people the financial freedom in purchasing a house, a car, a wedding or even a family holiday where prior to this they were denied by other financial institutions. Credit Unions welcome their communities trust in providing them with ethical savings and affordable loan financial services to overcome their everyday hurdles, unexpected loss or disaster.
This year’s theme for the 72nd anniversary of ICU day is “inspiring hope for a global community” as “what better way to show how credit unions from across the world provide hope through financial services, education and support than to highlight how credit unions have advanced the lives of members during the economic uncertainty wrought by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.” Michelle Kamke, Marketing Projects Manager at CUNA.
Credit Unions and Northern Community Bank alike uphold an inspiring ethos in investing in its community to provide a better financial future for tomorrow. To do this the credit union pools member’s savings to provide affordable loans – it’s literally people helping people! That’s why ICU Day is widely celebrated, because Credit Unions inspire hope in improving people financial future on a worldwide scale.
