Worried about your gambling or someone else’s? We’re here to help.

For many people, gambling starts out as a bit of fun—maybe a scratch card now and then, the odd bet on the football, or a spin on an app. But for some, it can quickly become a habit that’s hard to control.

If gambling is affecting your money, your wellbeing, or your relationships, you’re not alone—and you’re not without options. At Northern Community Bank, we’re here to offer support without judgement, and help you take back control.

When Gambling Becomes a Problem

Gambling can be difficult to spot as a problem at first. But here are some signs it might be time to talk to someone:

  • Spending more than you can afford
  • Chasing losses or borrowing to keep gambling
  • Hiding gambling from friends or family
  • Feeling anxious, stressed or low afterwards
  • Struggling to pay bills, buy food, or keep up with loan repayments

If any of these feel familiar, you’re not alone—and things can get better.

What You Can Do

The first step is recognising the impact gambling is having. After that, there are lots of ways to get support and make a change—at your own pace.

1. Talk to Someone

You don’t have to face it on your own. There are organisations who understand what you’re going through:

National Gambling Support Network – local help and resources: www.begambleaware.org

GamCare – 24/7 support and free counselling: www.gamcare.org.uk / 0808 8020 133

Gambling Therapy – global online support: www.gamblingtherapy.org

2. Put Limits in Place

  • Use self-exclusion tools like GAMSTOP to block access to gambling sites
  • Talk to your bank or building society about blocking gambling payments
  • Track your spending so you know where your money’s really going

3. Speak to Us in Confidence

If gambling is affecting your finances—or your loan repayments with us—please reach out. We’ll listen without judgement and help you explore your options, whether that’s adjusting your repayment plan or putting extra support in place.

We’re not here to criticise. We’re here to help.

Supporting Someone Else?

It’s not easy watching someone you care about struggle. But you don’t have to fix it all on your own. Encourage them to get support and take care of your own wellbeing too. The services listed above also offer advice for families and friends.

You’re Not Alone

Whether it’s you or someone close to you, gambling harm is more common than people realise. But it’s never too late to take back control—and support is always available.
