Northern Community Bank is delighted to announce the opening of our new Burnley branch, bringing our ethical savings and affordable loan services closer to the residents of Burnley and Pendle. The branch, located at 48 St James’s Street, was officially opened by Councillor Charlie Briggs, the Mayor of Burnley, in a celebration attended by local dignitaries, including Julie Cooper MP, and representatives from community banks across the UK.
The Mayor opened the Burnley branch by cutting the ribbon, marking the start of Northern Community Bank’s services six days a week for local people. “I am happy to see Northern Community Bank on Burnley’s high street,” said Mayor Charlie Briggs. “It is good for the town and its people to be able to access much-needed services.”
The new Burnley Branch is a long-term commitment to the town
Northern Community Bank President, Gerard Spain, welcomed Councillor Briggs and reaffirmed the bank’s long-term commitment to the community. “At a time when some businesses and banks are leaving the high street, opening this branch shows our dedication to providing reliable saving and borrowing facilities to Burnley and Pendle for years to come.”
The branch has been fully renovated to offer a welcoming space for account holders, including a private interview room and cashier desks for deposits and withdrawals. Julie Cooper MP highlighted the importance of having Northern Community Bank located on the high street alongside other essential services. “At a time when local people are facing low wages or the financial pressures of the Christmas period, it is reassuring to know that community banks are here to help,” she said.
The opening was also attended by leaders from across the UK community bank movement. Karen Bennett, President of ABCUL – the main trade association for community banks in Britain, shared her support and experience from Enterprise Community Bank in Liverpool, where she is Chief Executive Officer. “The branch looks fantastic, and I’m confident it will be a success. I know from our work in Liverpool that the services provided will be invaluable to the community,” she said.
Northern Community Bank is proud to be part of Burnley’s high street and looks forward to welcoming local residents to the branch. If you’d like to join Northern Community Bank and open an account, you can get started here.
