  1. Are you searching for ‘car finance near me’ now the showrooms are open?

Car showrooms, garages and dealerships tentatively reopen on the 1st June to the relief of many people in Burnley and Pendle looking to buy a car. You may have been one of the thousands who have searched for ‘car finance near me’ to enable the purchase of a new motor vehicle.

Having a car has always been pretty important to many people in our community, whether it is for the commute to work or to lug heavy shopping from the weekly big shop. There’s also the extra worry and drive away from public transport due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A recent survey by CarGurus found that a large number of people intent to move away from public transport and purchase a car for day to day transport

44 per cent of those who previously used public transportation expect to use it less – or stop using it entirely. As a result, a third of those expected to increase usage of their own car, while another third expect to purchase a vehicle to replace their current vehicle or buy an additional car

For those that have managed to save enough cash, or believe they can buy the car they need with a part exchange, now might be a good time to get a deal as newly returned salespeople start to look at sales board figures. For the majority of people buying a car in the UK it means — looking for the best car finance deals near me.

    James Hind, CEO of carwow

There is considerable pent-up demand from people looking to buy a new car who are having to put their plans on hold due to lockdown

If you’re looking for a 2nd hand run-around at £750 or a more expensive car running into the £1000’s then Northern Community Bank could help to provide the car finance you need

Of course, dealers will often offer finance deals on their vehicles and while Northern Community Bank can’t guarantee that our terms will be better 100% of the time, what we can say is that it’s worth taking the time to find out. That’s the challenge we throw down; if you want to spend more than £3000 on a car, compare the terms offered elsewhere to the terms on a Northern Community Bank car loan, and we’re pretty confident that what we provide will prove highly competitive.

Many garages and dealers, for example, offer finance which starts at 12.9% Representative APR, which is more than we’ll charge for a loan of over £3000. The word ‘representative’, what’s more, means that the rate in question only has to be offered to 51% of applicants. With us, on the other hand, the rate we quote you is the rate you pay, every time.

We’ve previously highlighted, the Financial Conduct Authority report showing that 500,000 drivers in the UK had been secretly over-charged by car salesmen looking to pocket extra commission. The word ‘commission’ doesn’t even exist in the Northern Community Bank dictionary. What you will find in there are the words ‘not-for-profit organisation’. If you are in the Burnley, Nelson and Colne area searching for ethical ‘car finance near me’ then check out the terms on a Northern Community Bank car loan.

If you’ve been scouring the internet looking for the ‘best car finance near me’, you may well have come across of a whole host of car finance deals. Our advice… take a minute to look at what they are offering. With 8/10 cars being purchased with a PCP agreement pre-lockdown we urge people in Burnley and Pendle to check whether low monthly payments and large balloon payment at the end, totalling into many thousands of pounds is really the right deal.

This is why personal car loans from Northern Community Bank may be a better option when looking for car finance. You will know the monthly repayments, own the car from the start and be left with no looming expensive final payment to find.

Another huge advantage of a Northern Community Bank loan is our Save as you Borrow scheme. When you take out a loan with us, there is a minimum saving amount that builds up to act as collateral against the loan. You’d be surprised how quickly these savings do build up…a great way to develop better saving habits.

If you are in the market for a new car now the showrooms have reopened and are searching for the best car finance near you, then consider a Northern Community Bank car loan. Many commentators believe cash is king in the car market at this moment and a loan from Northern Community Bank could give you the buying power you need to make the right purchase.

It’s free to talk to Northern Community Bank and our friendly staff are happy to provide loan quotes to help you compare car finance deals.

  2. Stay at Home Loans from Northern Community Bank

We are living in very strange times, concerned for the health of our neighbours and community, whilst many are finding themselves with a lot of spare of time at home through no fault of their own. For those fortunate enough not to have been ill, it has been a real opportunity to work on the homes they live in. As a community bank we have seen an increase in account holders applying for stay at home loan to complete home improvements.

It is usually when spring has sprung that we start to see a trickle of DIY stories, from tidying up the garden over the bank holiday weekend in April to undertaking major construction work. However with the lockdown there does not seem to have been many homes that have not seen a lick of paint or a larger scale project in the garden. If you are still at home for the feasible future then one of the stay at home loans from Northern Community Bank could be an option of funding a project and spreading the affordable payments over a longer period.

Inside your home a small stay at home loan could be used to up-cycle a piece of furniture, decorating a baby’s room or freshen-up a kitchen with new kitchen cupboards. Whilst outside the stay at home loan can be used for anything from fitting new seating areas or sanding and painting the fences in your garden all the way up to a bigger building projects. The point is that once the loan has been approved you can spend the money however you wish.

The other major advantage of our stay at home loans are the terms on which we offer them. To start with, we do everything in a transparent and up-front manner. The interest rates which you see mentioned on our website are the only interest rate we charge. Unlike some lenders, we don’t offer our best rate to a percentage of borrowers and a higher rate to all the others. Similarly, none of our account holders is ever hit with secret charges, fees or other small print.

Perhaps even more important is the fact that we are ethical lenders, working on a not for profit basis. When we set our interest rates we don’t have to think about paying a big bonus to the directors or funding a payout to our shareholders. If you take out one of our stay at home loans we’ll only lend you what you can honestly afford to pay back, and we’ll put a percentage of each payment into your savings so they carry on growing as you clear your loan.

We’ve made the process of applying for our stay at home loans as quick and simple as possible. Once you’ve given us all the information we need, we’ll reach a decision within two working days and, if it’s at all possible, by the next day. As soon as the loan has been approved, it will be paid into your bank account, leaving you free to spend it when and where you want.

  3. John Glen MP Praises Credit Unions

John Glen MP wrote to frontline essential financial services to thank credit unions, banks, building societies, and Post Offices for the vital role we are playing during the coronavirus crisis.

The Government has always been clear that the financial sector has a vital role to play at a time when many face financial difficulty.

Mr Glen, Economic Secretary to treasury, recognised how challenging it has been for financial services such as credit unions to adapt to the lock down whilst continuing to provide the savings and loan services which are still desperately needed by communities up and down the country

I know that these are challenging times for those of you working on the front line to provide essential banking services during the COVID-19 pandemic. I am encouraged by the way the sector has responded and am confident that you will continue to meet these challenges.

At Northern Community Bank we may have decided to close the branches to account holders but we have continued to provide a full service with telephone and online channels, with the Online Members Area and app offering a seamless ‘start to finish’ service to transact with your account.

John Glen MP has been a vocal supporter of the credit union movement since taking up position in the government. Northern Community Bank has be fortunate to attend two speeches by Mr Glen at the Houses of Parliament and he has also attended two years in a row at the ABCUL conference in Manchester to outline his commitment to the development of the sector. At the March 2020 conference Mr Glen said

“Communities need to be financially inclusive and resilient if they are to be attractive, productive and fulfilling places to live and work. Credit unions, by their very nature, reflect the communities they serve. You have the insight and connections to meet diverse local needs in ways that big banks and big government often can’t.”

In his letter Mr Glen concluded by praising the work done by organisations such as Northern Community Bank to help the most vulnerable members of the community during the coronavirus outbreak

“Finally, I have also been very encouraged to hear about specific examples of the support being provided by many of you to the most vulnerable customers. This includes herculean efforts to help customers who are facing acute financial difficulty, as well ensure that those that are self-isolating can access cash, complete their everyday banking online, and even access food and medication. It is these actions that will be remembered for getting the nation through this crisis.”

  4. BrightHouse Administration Presents Credit Unions With An Opportunity

BrightHouse has filed for administration. The rent-to-own company provides household items such as televisions, cookers, washing machines and furniture on a high interest pay-weekly hire purchase agreement.

BrightHouse customers should continue with their repayments, even with the company going into administration. Northern Community Bank know that a number of account holders have used the pay weekly store; you must keep up with repayments in order to avoid a negative impact on your credit score. BrightHouse or the administrators will contact you with any changes to your contract.

The current coronavirus outbreak has resulted in 240 BrightHouse stores closing across the UK, making it almost impossible for the company to continue, however before the health crisis BrightHouse were already looking at administration after suffering a £43.5m pre-tax loss according to multiple reports at the start of March.

Credit Unions across the UK are well placed to provide the money members of the community need to purchase, not rent, electrical items such as TV’s, cookers or washing machines. If you have used or considered the pay weekly stores for furniture in the past – Northern Community Bank should be your first stop. Our interest rates are certainly cheaper, we do not require you to buy insurance which many BrightHouse customers did not need and you can be sure we only operate to benefit you and your neighbours – not fat cat shareholders.

There will be little joy for the 2,400 BrightHouse employees that face being out of work at an uncertain time, however it is hard to shed a tear for the company when people in the Burnley and Pendle communities have been purchasing items with representative interest rates of 69.9%APR, with some items attracting interest rates as high as 99.9%APR.

Unfortunately it may not be good news for those who are currently waiting on mis-selling complaints, in a similar situation to those who were waiting on repayment from payday lender Wonga when it went into administration in 2018. Where Wonga customers received around 5% of the value of their claims

Its insolvency is likely to mean that customers with outstanding mis-selling complaints will receive only a fraction of the sums they are seeking.

    Mark Kleinman, Sky News

Northern Community Bank will not mourn the closing of BrightHouse. However if you’re one of 200,000 BrightHouse customers around the country who felt you had no options but to use the high interest pay weekly stores then contact your local Community Bank today.

  5. North West Credit Union WOW Conference Blackpool 2020

Northern Community Bank staff and board members joined Credit Unions from around the United Kingdom this weekend at the North West Forum of Credit Union WOW conference in Blackpool.

The annual conference sees Credit Union staff and volunteers from a range of community based Credit Union, as well as Credit Unions for a particular employer or in a particular industry. All those that attend are members of ABCUL which is the trade association that represents Credit Unions to governments, policy makers and the media, whilst helping to provide information, training and development services to help its members grow as sustainable financial services providers.

The aim of the conference is to bring together people working for Credit Unions at all levels to discuss common issues, share best practice and attend different seminars and lectures on topics which will help us to improve the service we provide to account holders.

Northern Community Bank’s chief operating officer Deborah Smith-Hands opened the weekend with a session presented by the members of Inspire, which is the Northwest’s network of young credit union professionals. The 90 credit union representatives in attendance heard excellent presentations from South Manchester Credit Union’s Beck on the best way to communicate with account holders, whilst Metro Moneywise Credit Union’s Alex and Megan detailed a partnership they have formed with Credit Unions from The Gambia in West Africa after attending the Credit Union Development Education (DE) Program.

Other sessions included how we help account holders, ways to implement co-operative principles into the day to day running of the credit union, and the Board of Director’s roles and responsibilities.

The weekend was fortunate to also have representatives from Leicester, London and Nottingham’s Credit Unions. Although Northern Community Bank only provide savings and loan accounts to the residents of Burnley, Pendle and surrounding areas, it is reassuring to know we are part of a nationwide movement of co-operatives that share the same aims.

We attend and participate in training sessions to develop the service we provide to account holders,  if you see an area where we could improve please contact Northern Community Bank with your feedback. This can be done here online, in branch through a feedback form or by speaking to a member of staff.

Northern Community Bank is your business – please help to shape it!

  6. Doorstep cash loans are not the answer this Christmas

Who are you looking forward to seeing the most over the festive period?

    Father Christmas? Of course.

    Family? Maybe.

Lenders peddling doorstep cash loans? You definitely shouldn’t be.

Christmas brings financial pressure like no other time of the year and when people are put under pressure they tend to make poor decisions. These decisions can lead to serious problems in the future and it’s why at Northern Community Bank, we always ask you to take your time and look at all the facts before filling out a loan application.

    What are doorstep  cash loans?

You will have seen these types of loans advertised on television or in the high street; bright, flashy marketing promising smaller sums – generally under £1,000 – across shorter repayment periods. The bit about the potentially devastating high rates of interest? That tends not to be as prominently promoted.

Why do people still see doorstep cash loans as a solution?

More than one million people a year use doorstep lenders in the UK. They are still seen by many as the simplest solution to a short-term dilemma; such as covering the cost of Christmas.

Applicants are likely to receive an instant decision, they like the fact they are getting a personal service and most importantly for some, less-than perfect credit ratings tend not to be an issue.

Before rushing into a decision you may later regret though, it’s imperative you look at the alternatives to these doorstep cash loans.

Why Northern Community Bank should be your first port of call

Northern Community Bank is a not-for-profit organisation. This means our account holders always come first, and those advantages found through using high-street or doorstep lenders…well, more often than not they can be found with us. For example:

Small loans – With Northern Community Bank you can borrow up to £500 at rates of interest that will open your eyes, not leave them watering.

Instant decision – At Northern Community Bank we aim to turn applications around as quickly as possible and will always try and reach a decision in just one working day.

Personal service – We pride ourselves on our personal service here at Northern Community Bank. Loan decisions are made by highly trained members of staff, not computers. Not only that, you can ring us on 01282 691333 or nip into one of our branches in Burnley, Nelson or Colne and we will happily discuss any queries you have.

Credit checks – Our loans are not decided by the results of credit checks but we do perform them while assessing loan applications. We perform credit checks to help us understand whether an applicant can afford to repay a loan. Some people may think they can afford the repayments but only come to realise they can’t once it’s too late. It is our role as an ethical lender to ensure this doesn’t happen. We also report back to the credit reference agency with each payment, so a borrower’s credit score can improve with every repayment.

Doorstep cash loans may seem like an attractive proposition on the surface. However, we’ve been around long enough to know they are fraught with danger and can easily lead to people spiralling further into debt. Speak to us first.

  7. Are you searching for a guaranteed Christmas loan

‘Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away.’
Too soon? Of course it isn’t. The Christmas countdown is well under way and at Northern Community bank we’re decking our halls, belting out carols and hoping to fill our sleigh full of guaranteed Christmas loans.

When we say guaranteed Christmas loans, of course, we don’t mean that they are guaranteed in absolutely 100% of cases. What we do mean by guaranteed Christmas loans is that, as a community bank, we’re far more likely than many institutions to lend money to those with a less than perfect credit score. That’s because our approval process is based on more than simply the credit score you’ve been given by some remote and faceless organisation.

Christmas is one of the most joyful times of the year but it can also be one of the most stressful. Parties, presents, turkeys, your partner having the heating on every minute of the day. Our budgets only stretch so far and Father Christmas not landing until December 25th doesn’t exactly help matters. Fortunately, the Northern Community Bank elves are here all year round; ready and waiting to help you spread the cost of the festive season over a longer period, when you’re searching for an affordable guaranteed Christmas loan.

It can sometimes feel like you’ve been left out in the cold while you’re waiting for a response to a loan application. At Northern Community Bank, we aim for a maximum two-day turnaround, although the majority of applications are actually completed within one working day; affording you plenty of time to get all the Christmas shopping done.

We understand that you may only need a few extra quid to make this Christmas extra special. Many lenders will not issue loans under the value of £1,000 and those that do, charge rates of interest that would have even Ebenezer Scrooge feeling bad.
Northern Community Bank is an ethical co-operative, here to provide affordable loans tailored to suit the person. A loan isn’t just for Christmas, and we will ensure your repayments are spread across the New Year, and most importantly, are within budget.

Christmas loans are one thing but one of the best presents Northern Community Bank can give you is the gift of ‘Saving as you Borrow’. This scheme offers account holders the opportunity to build up savings as they repay their loan, meaning next Christmas they could be in a position where they don’t need to borrow.

We can’t give you five gold rings, three French hens or even a partridge in a pear tree but what we can always give you is trustworthy, professional and understanding service.

Northern Community Bank has been helping the communities of Burnley and Pendle at Christmas for more than 36 years and if you’ve been searching for a guaranteed Christmas loan then you should contact our credit union today.  Apply online or ring 01282 691333 to speak to one of our staff if you would like more information. Alternatively, you can pop into one of our Burnley, Colne or Nelson branches…and maybe help us with putting up the tree.

  8. Northern Community Bank’s Christmas cash loans are a real festive life-saver

What’s more frightening than the weather outside at Christmas? Our bank balances at Christmas.

While Santa’s making his list and checking it twice; we’re logging into our accounts and checking them twice. Payments can quickly snowball during the winter months especially when our savings fall short of all the merry mayhem we have planned.

At Northern Community Bank we know how financially hectic things can get at this time of year and that’s why our Christmas cash loans can be a real festive life-saver for families. It may be that you only need a little bit of extra money to buy in all the food – and alcohol, of course – for a cracking Christmas Day feast the relatives are never going to forget.

Maybe you want to treat your little sprouts to a few extra presents, especially if they’ve been more nice than naughty this year. Maybe you’re looking at buying something extra special for that extra special someone in your life.

Whatever the amount for whatever the purpose, our Christmas cash loans are here with (sleigh) bells on.

One of the great things about Northern Community Bank is the fact we’re able to provide smaller amounts – up to £1,000 – for people who only need that little festive boost. We do lend right up to £15,000 and with highly competitive interest rates, our Christmas cash loans are certainly more than just a stocking filler.

Loan decisions are made by people as well, not computers, so you know your application is being looked at fairly, thoroughly and professionally. They are based on affordability, too, so you won’t be spending the New Year worrying about how you’re going to make repayments.

Once the loan is signed for, funds are made available the same day meaning you can get on with the joys of Christmas shopping straight away. The money can be transferred into an account of your choice or loaded onto a prepaid Engage card.

It won’t be long before Burnley town centre’s late night Christmas shopping period starts either so make sure you keep an eye out for news on that.

As well as Christmas cash loans, we also encourage people to open one of our free Christmas savings accounts. Through this scheme you can save as little or as much as you like but can only make withdrawals between November 1st and December 31st.

It’s perfect for those people who want to save for Christmas during the year but are constantly tempted to dip into their account for little bits here and there.

More than £150,000 was actually saved by Northern Community Bank account holders last year through the Christmas Club. You can join at any point, we do not charge fees, we do not take a percentage of your money and funds do not have to all be withdrawn at once.

Christmas should be about family, fun and overindulging in mince pies. Let Northern Community Bank take your mind off niggling money matters with our Christmas cash loans and help you get back to what’s important.

Apply online today, alternatively give us a ring on 01282 691333 or nip into one of our branches in Burnley, Colne or Nelson if you would like more information.

  9. Deborah travels to Los Angeles for Inclusiv conference

Northern Community Bank’s chief operating officer Deborah Smith-Hands recently represented both Northern Community Bank and UK community bank movement at the Inclusiv conference in Los Angeles. Deborah joined representatives from seven British credit unions on the trip, which was sponsored by CitiBank. The conference sees the largest gathering of community development credit unions in the US.

More than 300 credit union and community development professionals gathered at the Inclusiv conference devoted to the credit union movement and inclusive economies. The UK delegates were taken to Ventura Country Credit Union and Premier America Credit Union to gain an insight into how the US credit union model operates. The conference had a variety of seminars with topics ranging from socially responsible investing, to diversity and inclusion, and building more resilient and equitable communities.

Deborah shared the visit with representatives of Advance, Bradford District, Clockwise, Lanarkshire, London Mutual, Police and Salford Credit Unions. The party joined 100 conference attendees on a site visit to SCE Federal Credit Union’s Boyle Heights branch, Los Angeles, to learn about SCE’s financial education programs and the loan services they provide to the community.

It was inspiring to hear the story of the Boyles Height Branch and how the, now retired, COO George Poitou had to overcome so many obstacles to get the branch up and running, including the building being condemned and them having to move out of it again!”

    Deborah, Pennine chief operating officer

At the branch, which featured a mixture of modern and Mexican architectural elements, Deborah and the UK delegates were treated to a traditional performance from the Folklor American Dance Company

SCE Federal is a welcoming, modern credit union, with so much space to hold events for its members and their families. It was very apparent that the community was at the heart of everything they did.

Teresa Manning, CEO of Leicester’s Clockwise Credit Union, presentation regarding her credit union’s in-house digital transformation was enthusiastically received by the conference attendees.

Teresa’s presentation was the talk of the conference. The UK contingency were already impressed with what Clockwise had achieved in house and their ability to turn loans around in minutes but the US Credit Unions were blown away! Surprisingly, the US are behind the UK with their advancements in technology, so seeing what could be achieved was very exciting for all who attended the session

The trip was co-ordinated by Northern Community Bank’s trade association ABCUL who have a partnership with Inclusiv, who represent the community development credit unions in the US. Northern Community Bank’s relationship manager at ABCUL, John Haslam said

Attending this year’s Inclusiv conference was a fantastic opportunity. It’s clear that although there may be differences between the UK & US credit sectors, there are also striking similarities – not least the provision of affordable financial services to all parts of society. We have enjoyed meeting and learning from, a wide variety of US peers and I’ve got no doubt we’ll be bringing back some innovative ideas with us.

Deborah brought back a number of developments that Northern Community Bank will look to implement to improve the saving and loan services we provide to the local community in the upcoming months

Getting the chance to attend a US Inclusiv conference was a dream. I have always been in awe of their size and the products that they are able to offer. And although they often operate on a much larger scale, some having millions of members, the principles remain the same as ours. They exist to help people in their communities and it was really inspiring to see them in action

  10. Local Service. Global Reach – International Credit Union day 2019

On October 17, 2019, Northern Community Bank will join with 56,000 credit unions around the world in celebration of International Credit Union (ICU) Day 19®.

There are 200+ million credit union members around the world and Northern Community Bank joins them in celebration of the not-for-profit cooperative spirit that all credit unions share.

This cooperative spirit has led to life-changing opportunities for people all over the world who’ve wanted to move into homes, get married, buy a car, take a family holiday or develop their business but were denied access to other financial institutions. In many parts of the world, people’s first taste of democracy is through their credit union, where “one member, one vote” is the governing structure.

At its most basic level, a credit union is people pooling their money to provide each other with affordable loans—it is literally people helping people. This is why Northern Community Bank celebrates International Credit Union Day. Because credit unions empower people, wherever they are in the world or life, to take control of their financial future.

The local communities are welcome to stop by any of our three branches in Nelson, Colne and Burnley to find out our credit union, the ethical savings and affordable loans services that we provide. Join us as we celebrate a movement that concerns itself with the financial success of all people.

  11. Northern Community Bank challenges you to head in a new direction when it comes to car finance

Buying a new car undoubtedly remains one of life’s great pleasures. That new car smell. Hitting the open road for the first time. Testing out all those new gadgets. Squeezing three kids in for a trip to Burnley Asda. The last one maybe not so much. But even having to parallel park three miles from the entrance of a supermarket could never wipe a new car smile away. You know what might do though? Having to deal with new car finance or used car finance.

Even just reading the words ‘car finance‘ can have you going from 60 – 0 in three seconds. So buckle up, sit back and let us explain why when it comes to buying a car, one of the stops on your journey should definitely be Northern Community Bank.

Northern Community Bank’s aim when it comes to helping somebody apply for a car loan is to make the process as straightforward and as transparent as possible. Dealers will of course offer car finance deals on their vehicles and we would not be so arrogant to presume that our terms are always going to be better. What we can guarantee is that they will be highly competitive. We can also guarantee that there will be no hidden costs and our trusted and highly-experienced staff will be with you every step of the way.

Earlier this year, the Financial Conduct Authority released a report showing that 500,000 drivers in the UK had been secretly over-charged by car salesmen looking to pocket extra commission. The word ‘commission’ doesn’t even exist in the Northern Community Bank dictionary. What you will find in there are the words ‘not-for-profit organisation’. While the world of car finance centres around sales and profit, our sole interest is helping our account holders take care of their finances. This is why we keep interest rates as low as possible and operate a ‘what you see is what you get’ policy when it comes to repayments.

For instance, car finance through a dealer or garage typically starts at 12.9% Representative APR, which is more than we would charge for a loan of more than £3,000. And that is why we would challenge you to, by all means, listen to what they have to offer, but then come and speak to us.

Interest rates aside, there are no set-up fees, no early settlement penalties and if you do choose to apply for a loan, our decision will be with you faster than a Bugatti Chiron Sport. If a Bugatti Chiron Sport takes around one day to reach its destination.

Northern Community Bank offers car loans of up to £15,000. That means instead of having to deal with the minefield that can be car finance, you can look at buying your new wheels outright, in time for your next supermarket big shop.

Apply online or pop into one our Burnley, Colne or Nelson branches for a quick chat, if your car is on the verge of going to the great scrapyard in the sky, give us a ring instead on 01282 691333.

We’ll be happy to talk through any queries you may have on car finance.

  12. Can you get a loan with bad credit? Yes…because we look beyond the numbers at Northern Community Bank

A bad credit history can hang over you like a dark cloud hangs over our ‘beautiful’ British summers. If you’ve ever applied for a loan and seen the words ‘application rejected’ you’ve probably gone through the five stages of no loan grief – denial, anger, confusion, disappointment and acceptance. At Northern Community Bank our sympathetic staff are forever being asked the question, ‘Can you get a loan with bad credit?’

Well we can’t guarantee summer sunshine – unless of course you’re applying for a holiday loan – but we can help lift those bad credit clouds and set you on the way to a brighter future; one where you’re no longer frantically searching  the web for ‘Can you get a loan with bad credit?’

Getting through the door can be half the battle when applying for a loan. The good news is Northern Community Bank has an open door policy when it comes to loan applications and these applications are assessed by highly trained members of staff, not a bank of faceless number-crunching machines.

It may be 2019 but why should a computer determine whether or not you receive a loan? How is it that a person who’s never had credit can struggle to get loan approval? It’s because payment history is the biggest factor in determining a person’s credit score and credit scores are what banks use to grant loans.

However, at Northern Community Bank we recognise that people’s finances are rarely so black and white. Imagine missing a payment for your new sofa – by just a few days – because you forgot to set up a standing order.  We bet you’ve forgotten the milk before as well. Does that mean you shouldn’t be allowed to buy milk next time you go to the shop?

Fortunately, unlike banks we don’t judge a person solely by their credit score. Of course, Northern Community Bank does take credit scores into account when dealing with an application but we delve deeper. A person is more than just a number and the relationship between applicant and creditor should be built around openness and trust.

We talk to people about how they have addressed their past borrowing, we look at income and expenditure, go over the best loan options available. We want the answer to your ‘Can you get a loan with bad credit?’ question to be a ‘yes’. It’s a question we’ve answered ‘yes’ many times before.

In fact, some of Northern Community Bank’s best account holders today came to us after struggling to get credit elsewhere. And they’re still Northern Community Bank account holders today because we didn’t just say ‘yes’ and show them on their merry way. We guided them towards building a better financial future, one where ‘Can you get a loan with bad credit?’ was a question they no longer needed to ask.

Here’s three ways how we help do that:

    • We improve your credit rating by reporting payments back to the credit reference agency.
    • We help account holders stick to a saving or loan repayment schedule so we are more likely to lend again if an unexpected expense arises.
    • We recommend our ‘Save As You Borrow’ scheme. It will help you build up savings as you repay your loan meaning if an unexpected expense does occur, you’re already covered.

So, stop typing ‘Can you get a loan with bad credit?’ into your search engine, apply online for an affordable Northern Community Bank loan or pick up the phone and give us a ring today on 01282 691333.
